Writer, Journalist, Editor, Speaker
Lucy L. Middleton is a London-based writer, journalist, editor and speaker with a background in delivering international news for national newspapers and Reuters newswire. She has written and commissioned original stories from more than 35 countries across six continents, and reported on the ground from the United States, South Africa, Romania, Bulgaria, and Lithuania, among others.
She is currently the Thomson Reuters Foundation's LGBTQ+ correspondent, and was previously deputy editor of Openly, its award-winning global LGBTQ+ news platform. Her work on the TikTok channel Openly was recognised in the Social: News and Politics category at the 2025 Webby Awards.

​Prior to joining TRF, Lucy was an assistant news editor at the Mirror Online, a senior news reporter at Metro.co.uk, and a broadcast and social video journalist for Deutsche Welle's business desk in Berlin. She has spoken on multiple international panels, including at Chatham House in London and TechBBQ in Copenhagen.
Lucy is currently a senior fellow at the John Schofield Trust and has discussed her writing about mental health on BBC Radio Scotland.
